PATELLA FEMORAL
Patellofemoral syndrome (PFS) is one of the most common causes of anterior knee pain. It is commonly known as runner's knee or patellofemoral pain, caused by repeated movement with the cartilage behind the kneecap becoming irritated. The most common symptom experienced is pain worsening with running and going up and down stairs. Common causes can be poor foot mechanics, improper footwear and weakness or an imbalance of the quadriceps muscles.
At Right Path Podiatry we assess the pain at the front of the knee and diagnose it. We then focus on the best prevention and treatment plan which can include a rehabilitation program, change in lifestyle, change of footwear and possibly orthotics if there is an underlying biomechanical cause.
